Brand New Presents: Nybor
I know people enjoy BRAND NEW. Brand new shoes, brand new man, even the new car smell, so I'm here to bring you brand new music from an up and coming artist who I happen to know personally (We split all profits 90:10). I knew this girl for the majority of my life, whether we were playing in the band together, or visiting Disney World...for concerts. Come to think of it, this girl seems to always do something with music. I decided that as the first official blog for her, I'll just write the tell-all book now. I knew her since elementary school when she went by the name Robyn and I was always the smarter, funnier one. She was the one playing the flute while I was playing the more interesting CLARINET. After parting ways for a while, we ended up going to the same high school (no frikkin way) but I totally knew she was following me. She was the band geek and I was the cool chorus kid who had to come together for concerts, trips, etc. I decided to spend my life studying the realms of math while she continued to study the evolution of Hip Hip.

Her stage name is Nybor (which is Robyn backwards, that took me so long to get.) She just released her premiere mixtape a couple of days ago titled "Vertigo" which can be downloaded here or here for FREE (and we All love free). If someone told me she was going to be a rapper, I would've bet money against it (Sorry girlie) but now I'm proud of her. I like her music because she is like a mix between Waka Flocka and Nicki Minaj (She's like Waka Minaj). Ok maybe not, but she is ultra lyrical. If you're one of those people who listens to music just to dance to the beat (like me), this record might change that. You guys know that if this tape was trash, I would not waste my time even listening to it, let alone writing a whole blog post about it. And even though I'm not on ANY track (not even one), you should take a listen to the tape for yourself, and start a protest to get me on the next mixtape!

I would have to say my favorite track is Call and Fold of course because it has a math reference in it "I'm all about my positives like a double negative." Robyn, I really love you for this one. Any song with mathematical references in it is okay by me.

If you want to talk to the magnificent artist yourself,
follow her on twitter @NyboRtsuJ
And tweet her, she always tweets back.

For more info on this tape...

"Rock With Revere" is a classic introduction over one of my favorite hip-hop groups, the Beastie Boys, songs "Paul Revere."

"
No Words, Just Thoughts" was a song I wrote last spring in my Psychology 101 class. The title of the song basically explains the songs concept, "quick write situations down, cause now they're's just no use for talk."

"
Call & Fold": D.S. (@irarely_tweet) is 1/4 of the hip-hop group Secondary Culture (@secondarycultur), based out of Canarsie, Brooklyn. He is featured on "Call & Fold," which was produced by Nyamekye Lee. The nature of this song was "The Spirit of Competition" a play-on of Secondary Culture's debut mixtape of the same name. I asked D.S. to feature on "Call & Fold" and said just kill it, we'll have a competition to see who can write the better verse, thus the song was born.

"
Illusion" was produced by Kevin Caldwell aka the Golden Boy (@Al0vehatething), who does not have a twitter. He sent me the 1st drafts of the beat and I started writing to it immediately. "Illusion" is a letter to myself, a list of things I feel are illusions, but are being put into action through hard work & dedication. "I'm living in the moment, but I'm trying to leave a legacy"

"
Élan Vital", meaning vital force or vitality in French, is a heartfelt song written to a remake of Bruno Mars' "Liquor Store Blues" production. Olivia (@bitetheweenie), an alum of  Bayside High School's School of Music, lends her vocals to the original lyrics about the recent recession & those who find it hard to provide for themselves while others turn the other cheek as they seek help. I asked Olivia if she wanted to sing on a track for me so I sent her a rough draft of the lyrics and she loved it. I told her the time markings of where she was to come in & told her to go crazy with her harmonies. When we skyped a practice run of the song, I was really taken aback with her harmonies and knew I would be happy with the finished project.

"
I Get it In" is a hyper/fun track speaking towards all negative notions new artists face when coming up. I wrote this song last summer, known as the summer of no sleep, in the wee hours after surfing YouTube and reading comments about an coming artist. The comments were so harsh, that they hurt me also. Thus came "I Get it In."

'
Vertigo' was recorded in three different states (NY, GA, & FL). Olivia recorded her pieces in New York,NY, mine in Atlanta, GA and D.S.'s in Tallahassee, FL. I recorded the bulk of "Vertigo" in Statik Park's (@StatikPark) studio under their production company Tru Starrz Productions.

The title 'Vertigo' is something for the listeners to figure out, all I can say is that there will be a recurring theme throughout my projects. The cover was created by Kevin Caldwell, also the producer of "Illusion"! The cover conveys his vision of 'Vertigo'.
